Host organisation: Cirkulárium / Pilsen / Czechia
Date: 19. – 26. June 2025
The first exchange goal was to meet one another and get to know each other in playful way using the circus environment.
The circus technique
The project has brought four different groups from different environment to share their skill on aerial and ground acrobatics, handstands or juggling. The new experience was set by the technique of cyrwheel and teeter board.
Self-development
The guest lecturer Glynis Hull-Rochelle offered an intensive workshop focused on somatic self-regulation. Together with Glynis all participants went through several somatic exercises and techniques to strengthen emotional stability and body awareness.
Performers' diary
All participants have created their diary to follow their progress in the project. By filling the prepared exercises focused on personal reflection and internal experience they are able to create a map of their development. This material and diary will guide participants through the whole project and it will help them to reflect on their learning experience by the end of the project.
All materials used in the diaries can be found (e-version) in the slot "Materials".
Cards
In the first exchange we have spoken about the idea of creation the deck of cards with individual and helpful exercises to use when any negative thoughts or stress reaches our mind. The idea was to connect the exercise with the activity that connects us all: circus.
Performance
The end of the week in Pilsen was ending with the multimedial site-specific show "HRAnice svobody" ("The border of freedom") that took place in the OC Atom space. The show was put together in one day and was based rather on site-specific perception of the space than a circus techniques. Performers were to show their original music, slam poetry pieces, movement in the public space and applied art (inverted graffiti). The show offered space for everybody - from performative roles up to creating the environment as such.

Date: 19. - 26. September 2025
The second exchange was focused on finding the balance - both physical and mental - and closer look to participants as individuals.
Circus technique
The second week of the project took place in the countryside on Romania in the space built for technique of funambulism. The walking on the line is showing the unique paralel to inner mental balance and peace. It is a technique that challenges the walker to focus on breathing and dismiss all the distractions surrounding them (inner thoughts and insecurities included).
Funambulism as such is widely aproachible, offering the wild range of possibilities: higher or lower line, lighter or heavier pole. Its inclusivity is fascinating. The teachers Imi Nagy and Raluca Nagy were both present to support all participants and almost all of them were able to walk ten metres on the high wire with the use of the safety line. Up there is no space to hide, you walk above the heads of others solely focused on yourself.
Self-development
We have reached into the somatic experience again, this time in regular thirty-minutes-long slots every day. The "self-care showers", as we have called them, were lead by Dáda Pelesná, the lectureur of personal development and breathwork facilitator from Pilsen. The showers were mainly focused on work with breath and connection to the body, short self-development rituals in the forest and natural environment.
Main topics of self-care showers:
• Grounding and stability: We have learnt how to face the fear (for example on the line) and the inner mess by using the guided imagination and work with body.
• Relaxation of the nervous system: We were training the ability to lower the stress and find the "flow" during the challenging physical activity by using breath exercises (such as Box breathing etc.).
• Mindfulness and presence: We were able to focus on now and here by using the mindfulness techniques.
• Release of the tension: We were learning how to effectively loosen and release stress (and other negative thoughts) by using the dynamic movements and shaking.
Thanks to all these guided exercises it was possible to offer not only physical challenge in training but also the safe space for deep self-regulation.
Performers diary
Participants were again given pages for their self reflection in the PD. The diary offers a comparison to the previous exchange and the experience it gave.
All materials used in the diaries can be found in the e-version in the slot "Materials".
Cards
All exercises we have gone through were given to the participants in written form as a start for their personal FAK (First Aid Kit) tools. We will later start to build the circus versions using these techniques.
Performance
The peak of the week was again in a form of a show. This time the show involved circus techniques such as acrobatics, juggling, contortion and mainly funambulism. The highwire was in the hight of 4 metres above the ground and guided the theme of the whole show: the duality. Four international groups had their time to work on the theme of duality on their own in the given time frame. The show then offered multiple angles: meeting of the old and new world, contrast between the dynamic and static tricks, dialogue between the motion and the stillness.
The whole creation was highly site-specific as it took place in the open air and offered many possibilities. The role of the director was given to Imi Nagy, the headmaster of the Scoala de Circ. Given the weather conditions (soft rain) the show has become a connecting experience and in the end gained positive feedback in the final reflection.
Circus show has been performed for local audience that have come from near and far villages. The comunity feeling and environment was set by the comunity dinner after the show where we have got the chance to meet some parents of our romanian friends or local villagers. As a final circus touch there was a spontaneous fire show performed by skilled performers as well as the very young participants showing that the circus can connect multiple generations.
Host organisation: Circus Circuli / Stuttgart / Germany
Date: 26. March - 4. April 2026
Third exchange was focused on the whole group and was designed to support the feeling of the collective.
Circus technique
Stuttgart offers a wide comunity of circus professionals and we were able to taste some new disciplines such as Russian Bar, Dynamic Group Acrobatics, Pole Dance or technique of Three-hights (three people towers).
Partner acrobatics and russian bar disciplines set a perfect paralel to the theme of the week: support. When the flyers rely and trust their bases, they can fly high above the heads of others. The technnique of russian bar, where two people (bases) balance a person on guite narrow boards, makes a perfect example of the trust in circus. Flyers in this case only needs to stay still and solid. The rest of the balancing work is on their bases. Together they can reach high jumps and guite difficult acrobatic tricks. However we have set lower goal: the safe jumps.
Self-development
Performers diary
Individual reflection was guided by the performers diary. Participants had their time to look back in the previous year and to compare their skills and self-development.e
All materials used in the diaries can be found in the e-version in the slot "Materials".
Cards
This week the work on their own FAK cards (First Aid Kit cards) has started. We have created 8 multinational working groups. Each has chosen a circus technique they wished to work on: aerial acrobatics, ground acrobatics, juggling, flow arts and balance. Their goal for the week was to connect the excercise from this and previous exchanges with the dicsipline of their choice. By the end of the week they have got a special time and consultation with Dagmar Pelesná on their work. Thus we have sed the foundations for the final week.
Performance
The format for the show in Stuttgart was different from the previous once: flash mob. Short and immersive show that will repeat on multiple spots in the city centre and disappears just after it is done. Show consisted of six international groups showing manipulation with everyday objects: coats, hats, umbrellas, suitcases and crutches. At the end of the short show there was a dance with all performers. Show also contained bits of peaces of the previous shows: music from the first exchange and the dance from the week in Romania.
